My experience was the workers and the volunteers there were very helpful and caring. What you should be CAREFUL OF is the situation with "Shelter Veterinary" the contractors connected to the shelter. They do all their medicals for the pets they adopt out. Long story short they gave a friend a rather inflated bill when she came to adopt out a dog we found running in traffic a week earlier. We wanted to do the right thing in case someone was looking for her. No one was so and she came at 8am the day she was available to adopt her. She needed to be spayed. Shelter Veterinary said the anesthesia would COST EXTRA!! I've volunteered in rescue for 30 years. There is absolutely no way you can do a sterilization with no anesthetic. For one thing the animal will not stay still. This boggled my mind. I volunteered at a county shelter for 4 year and even went to Puerto Rico with a "mash" unit to sterilize pets. On top of that they told her she needed a lot of dental work. The bill came to just under $1000. This is not to say that the doggie didn't need all this done. She did and they did a good job. And, that being said, the price was not terrible for what she had done. It could have been much more. It was just the way it was handled. Of coarse a person wants to do all they can when they are emotionally invested. My friend ended up handing over her credit card and getting it all done at once. And her new doggie is thriving. But not everyone can do that. So be aware and prepared. If they tell you you have to pay "extra" (above the $120) for anesthesia and suggest extras you can say no. I don't want this to dissuade a person from adopting. You can do medicals in increments if you cannot take the financial hit all at once. And no one I spoke to from 3 active 501c3's Dog Rescues in Los Angeles has ever heard of this practice before. Good Luck... Adopt don't Shop!!
Wonderful workers, super caring and helpful! Literally couldn't be more thankful!
Me and my cat are not from the US, and getting her ready for an international fight out of US has been a complete nightmare. I found west LA shelter after losing 3000$ more and 2 months of precious time due to the irresponsibility of several vet institutions and I was suspecting that West LA shelter would do the same. I was very distressed when told that the only option left is to keep her here for awhile and adopt again (I was running out of time for my flight and my cat was stressed out and not eating because of the previous 2 months). However, the workers here stayed over time just to help me register her in and reassured me that I can call and visit everyday. In the shelter, my cat was well fed, well rested and clean. Several workers even helped me to get her adopted 2 days earlier than expected. Now she's in my room happy, jumping up and down. Literally couldn't be more grateful! The West LA shelter restored my trust for animal-care-takers!
I can't speak highly enough about this pet adoption center. The quality of their service is unmatched - the staff is genuinely compassionate and dedicated to finding forever homes for their animals. The pets are well-cared for, with all necessary medical attention provided. The adoption fee is a great value, covering vaccinations and spaying/neutering. Adopting from here not only saved a life but brought immense joy into mine. Highly recommended!

One of the best run & most compassionate shelters!! Cori & her staff are passionate about what they do and it shows. The animals are well taken care of & seem to have a chance.
This shelter has amazing volunteers. The pets are well taken care of. It’s has some wonderful rescues.
My cat caught a rat and left it in the bathtub. It was still alive, but its front legs were injured and it could barely walk. We rescued it and put it in a hamster cage with food and water. I called so many places and this place said that they’d take it. We sat in heavy traffic for thirty minutes to get here with the rat. The supervisor was SO mean. She kept repeating “We’re just going to euthanize it” over and over again in front of my young kids. She should be fired. Never take an animal here, domestic or wild.
I adopted my puppy here they named her Flower but I change her name to Bianca. She is sweet girl. This is a great shelter. The people that worked here and volunteer really care for the animals.
The staff is very friendly they helped me and my wife surrender 8 puppies very good staff and they really care about the dogs and cats
